another auction

I went to a box lot auction last night. It was the first time the auctioneer had one of this type & it seemed to work out pretty good. It was quick. Each consigner had a table, so you could bring in one box or 20 boxes.
I doubt any big money was made for the consigners or the auction house but people got rid of small stuff & other people bought that small stuff & now they will to try to get rid of what they just bought....oh I mean they will lovingly price it & gently place it into their shop to sell to a lucky customer who just has to have it!

A huge amount of cherubs flew in for the evening...

Going to an auction like this confirms my belief that there is "only so much stuff to go around" & it just keeps going around & around.

Some treasures...great old child's rocking chair, some tinware, wooden items too.

Anyways, it's all good because it's all recycled, reused & reloved!!!!

That said, I sold 14 box lots & bought 6 others. And so it goes...

PICKIN'

I went pickin' today in a friend's storage trailer. Always good to choose a hot humid day to do this sort of thing. Even better to wear a dress??!!! (and have an aching back)

Anyway, she had a double gateleg dropleaf table that interested me. I have never seen one like this. Very different construction. The top looks really old, it's either scrubbed worn or been stripped a looong time ago. I thought at first the base was newer. But in looking at the unattached top pieces I could see wear, light & dark spots & some red wash on the underside of the tabletop boards which matched up with the base. So maybe they weren't married, maybe they did actually start out life together.
It was too hot to haul it out so I don't have a pic yet. It is a project for sure.
I also got some grungy country items, old galvanized tub, a handled square bucket, a rusty milk box & a big ole water bottle in a wooden crate.
As much as I love Limoge & Bavarian china, lace, cherubs & roses I love vintage farm & garden stuff & barn fresh country furniture!

Chairs, ya can't have too many!

How many of you love chairs...shabby, old, sweet, country chairs? I am finding out that they are favored by many people. A new member of the Yahoo group that I have (The Shabby Country Cottage) kind of made me realize I've always had a fondness for vintage child chairs. They come and go, like pretty much everything around here, but while they are in my possesion I do adore them! So here's a couple pics I snapped today.

Essex Mass

Cellar in a great shop in Essex Mass, awesome old brick floor.

Essex Mass view across salt marsh

Gorgeous view from where we ate (Farnham's Clams) in Essex Mass. LOVE this old house, I wanted to go sit on that fabulous porch!
Spent the day down in Ipswich & Essex Mass today.

Here is The White Elephant Antiques shop. The big red place is in town & is filled, inside & out. When it gets too full, items are moved to the other place the owners have up the road, a gigantic old farm house/barn. Then everything is 50-75% off!
******************************************************************************************

This shop is called Rose Cottage Romance & is on Route 133 across from the Ipswich School. The displays were fabulous, several dealers all with similar tastes, make it a very welcoming & shabbilicious shop.

There's another group shop next to it called High Street Antiques.

Auction Stuff

Yesterday I went to an all day auction.
Always a good time. (even though the metal chairs are sooo uncomfortable)

It was hot inside, & crowded, standing room only per usual the first couple hours. And the smell of yummy food being cooked, specially the burgers & peppers & onions on the grill made me sooo hungry. (my water & granola bar were no help)

I was happy to get lots of pretties...Limoges, ironstone, Nippon, German & English pieces.

Great box lot of creamers, all kinds, all quite old & all but one in nice condition.
Loved the so shabby rose lamps! They will need very special shades.
The doll chair is already in the shop (at Just The Thing! in downtown Dover NH) But the old red wash prim baby potty chair just might stay here...great planter!

I got a box of country items, a couple awesome swirled enamelware coffee pots, an old granitware cup, a sweet mini enamel funnel.

The antique side table will go next to my bed. It is almost an inspiration piece for a decor change.

The framed print of the little girl is lovely. Really cool old textured frame too.

We've been lucky to have some gorgeous warm days lately. So yard work, getting out for walks & motorcyling have been occupying my time.
I have been remiss in not posting any pics of items I've brought into the shop.
Tomorrow there is the indoor antiques flea market in Dover that is always fun. But there's also an all day auction up in Epsom. So much stuff, so little time!

March...a taste of Spring

We had a definite taste of SPRING the last few days! It was wonderful!
I brought in a cheapie pine hutch for display today. Then did a quick redo in the shop. (well I shuffled what was there...)

I'd really like to get some more garden & architectural elements in there.

Shabby Grunge Hoosier

LOVE THIS!!!!

Soo chippy & crackled paint that someone sealed to retain the glorified shabbiness forever!
