My Old Bird Cage

I figured it was time to take the holly greenery out of my old bird cage...give it a little taste of Spring.
(yes there is still 2 feet of snow covering my yard but I can dream...)

I do think I need to put a shabby little doily under the flower pot...

I love this bird cage for several reasons. First, I got it cheap at a yard sale. :>)

It came with the solid ceramic-like parakeet on the swing. It still has its old glass water and feeding dishes. And the clasps that hold the cage to the bottom are small iron owl figures!

FLEA MARKET STYLE

I was lucky enough to have the new issue of FLEA MARKET STYLE saved for me at Barnes and Noble.
I have been waiting since last year for this magazine. And let me tell you, it was worth the wait!

Hope you can find it somewhere, it seems to sell out FAST!!!!!!!

Got Milk?

Old glass milk bottles made great vases for wildflowers, especially on the kitchen windowsill or out on a porch table. Here's two that might work for you.
The Rutland Hills bottle $9.
The larger Benware bottle has some cute wording on it. $12

Wonderful small oil on board $29

This little vintage painting of  a vase full of flowers is quite nice.  There is a signature that I am not sure of.. The size, including the frame is 4x10.5

Must be mid century modern day

Trio of enameled and decorated Japanese stacking tables. $59

Stangl covered cigarette dish/tray. So very 1960.

Mid Century Pottery Lamps $29 pair

I like the form and color on this pair of small pottery lamps. You would have to find the right shades to make them shine and live up to their full vintage potential.

I would suggest rewiring these retro lamps before using them. Then they will safely shine!

The feminine side...

This is a sweet little stand, just right for holding a vase of posies or a cup of tea.
It is a lightweight composite with lovely painted floral designs on the top and the base.
Price is $30

Westmoreland diamond design heavy milk glass 1950s butter dish $20

Pretty dish

Pretty design and colors on this chocolate pot that is missing its lid.

Some country goodies

Vintage HotPoint iron, great for laundry room decor
Old ads made into signs

Stoneware whiskey jug $24
Small double handed stoneware jug $12

Cute and handy, black slatted bench $39
Vintage LOTTO game. Cool box, but even better are the round wooden numbers.  $10

Top of slatted bench, would be pretty with a cushion.

Pair of maple chairs $59

Oil cans

*SOLD* at Just The Thing! Framed artwork $75

You have got to see this fun original framed artwork done in 1954. It will make you smile.
The size including frame is 31x37.

Auction Find

Yesterday was an action filled day at the auction. I love sitting for hours on a cold metal chair LOL
There were some good deals and several furniture pieces I had to pass on since I didn't have the truck.
But I did find some goodies.
This morning I will be getting them cleaned up and tagged to go into the shop.

Here are 4 sweet little prints of Sun Bonnet Babies in a nice old frame.

I believe these images have a 1905 copyright.

We have had a welcome break in the weather...we've actually had a few days without snowfall.

The lift top storage chest I painted and brought into the shop only lasted a day. Somebody got a handy piece.
The shop was busy today. Lots of people out vintage treasure hunting!

Today's Finds @ Cabin Fever Show

I went to a fabulous antiques show today.
If you are in the area the next three days please make an effort to go!
It is put on by the people of Sage Farm and takes place in a gorgeous old renovated barn in North Hampton. The building used to house Rollins Furniture.
It is the perfect venue. The set up was incredible. What a great job all the dealers did.

I picked up three pieces of painted furniture. Just cute handy pieces I can use.

cute little storage chest *SOLD*

This is a really cute old 6 board chest that is a flip top storage seat.
What a handy piece in a mudroom, hallway or porch. Great place to stash gloves, hats, dog sweater. And sturdy enough to sit on.
Another piece I hope to get into Just The Thing this week.

Pair of Chairs

Quick redo:
Nice pair of pressed back maple chairs. They will be going in the shop tomorrow I hope.

End of January

It has been a cold and snowy month. We all deserve a day of treasure hunting so come on in and see what you can find!

We still have many items on clearance at JUST THE THING! And always "new" old treasures being brought in.

small cabinet

I got this small red cabinet the other day...basic, some one's project I would say and a really poor paint job.

It told me it wanted to be painted in sage and shabbied up. I agreed.

I have several items still available on sale...

The clearance pickin's are getting slim...many items have already gone to new homes during the first week of the winter clearance sale but I do still have some deals.
Scroll down to see a couple items on sale.
And take a moment to look at the pics in the most recent posts of a few things that were brought into the shop today.

This upholstered top kiwi colored stool is on sale for $22.
The cute little commode wash stand is marked down to $72.

Dome Top Trunk *SOLD* Peachy Pink Painted Maple Coffee Table/Plant Stand $49

I had a very similar painted dome top trunk sell a few months ago. This is the big sister. It is done in a cool creamy paint finish, which shows off the wonderful old details and hardware.
The condition of this trunk isn't the greatest. The leather handles are shot and the caster and chunk of bottom wood has come apart.
But it would look fine at the foot of a bed or under a window and would be good storage. Priced at just $60. ***SOLD***

January Shop Space

The winter clearance sale is still going on at Just The Thing!
Stuff is flying out of the shop.
I brought in a few pieces today so come on in and check it out.

How did it get to be 2011!?!?

I hope everyone has had a great start to the new year.

Last Monday was the first day of the winter sale at JTT, and also the day of our first blizzard of the season.
But there were customers waiting for the store to open, one wearing snowshoes!
Many items have gone off to new homes and I plan to be in to replenish stock this week.

Here's to a new year of recycling, reusing and reloving vintage stuff!
